Are you ready for the elections? Voters urged to register and sign up for postal voting

7th April 2021

Voters across West Oxfordshire are being encouraged to make sure they are registered and have applied for postal voting, if required, so they can vote in the local elections on 6 May. To take part in any election those over the age of 18 must be registered in the area they live in. Some people eligible to vote may not be registered as they may have moved recently or are voting for the first time. Poll cards have now been sent to all individuals registered to vote which contain information on their polling station along with election details. If you have not received a poll card, it may mean you are not registered so please contact the Council. Residents can register to vote here - it takes just five minutes to complete. www.gov.uk/registertovote Some residents prefer to vote by post or by proxy - where another individual casts a vote on a registered voter’s behalf when that individual cannot vote themselves. To be able to use a proxy vote applications must be in by 5pm on Tuesday 27 April. By using a postal vote residents can make sure their voice is heard at the local elections from the safety of their home. Residents need to apply before the deadline of 5pm on Tuesday 20 April. To apply for postal or proxy voting, see https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/about-the-council/elections-and-voting/register-to-vote/ or call 01993 861410.
